David Marquez has been working for the past six years at the Porta Via restaurant in Pacific Palisades. Last year, he started another part-time job in a restaurant across the street called Pearl Dragon. Despite the long drive from his home town of Downey to the Palisades, Marquez enjoyed his jobs. He could make ends meet at home, where he lives with his partner and 93-year-old grandfather, and send money to support his two children in Mexico.
