Immigrant families and workers from multiple Northern California cities said they will lead a walk from Vacaville to Sacramento beginning Saturday, June 7 and ending on Monday, June 9, under the banner, “We Belong Here–Citizenship For All!”

Walkers will hold a press conference in Sacramento to urge the state to pass a resolution condemning the deportations and supporting legislation offering a path to citizenship.

“We cannot tolerate our families being ripped apart through the current deportations,” said Gabriela Hernandez, organizer with the Sonoma County  immigrant women’s group Almas Libres. “California must put its money where its mouth is and more proactively urge Congress to pass a fair path to citizenship, so that we may continue to contribute to this country and live in peace and with dignity.”

The walkers’ demands also include adequate funding for MediCal for the undocumented and no use of Alcatraz, Travis Airforce Base and Dublin Prison to incarcerate immigrants.

The Northern California Coalition For Just Immigration Reform (NCCJIR) consists of dozens of immigrant rights organizations representing Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Marin, Sonoma, and Humboldt counties.

The walk begins at Andrews Park in Vacaville at 8 a.m on Saturday, June 7.
