AI Policy

At CALÓ News, we are a group of award-winning and college-educated journalists with a vast array of experience in media. Some of us began our careers by reporting with basic technological equipment, such as tape recorders and handheld cameras. We still use notebooks when conducting interviews and reporting on scene. However, with advancements in technology, new tools have emerged to support the ever-evolving field of journalism. Our newsroom utilizes software and resources that can be categorized as “AI,” including applications that transcribe audio recordings from interviews, software that checks our grammar and refines our messaging, technology that takes notes and transcribes interviews, and apps that allow us to edit existing images. These are all just tools to strengthen our work. We feel this is important information to share for the sake of transparency and trust with our audience.

Our writing, reporting and our journalistic integrity remain the same. We strictly abide by the Society of Professional Journalist’s Code of Ethics and closely watch what guidelines are set forth by the leading AI experts at The Pulitzer Center regarding the use and misuse of AI. We take pride in double and triple checking our reporting in order to verify our facts and sources because we are human and make mistakes, but we believe in accuracy and fairness in our reporting.
