Looking for a fun way to exercise while improving your gamesmanship? Cedars-Sinai's Forever Fit program is once again introducing a new free exercise program for older adults, this one called Bingocize.

Bingocize combines the game of bingo with various exercises tailored to older adults, such as range-of-motion, balance, muscle-strengthening and endurance exercises.

In addition, the program offers health tips focused on fall prevention. Data on the importance of exercise for older adults comes from a Cedars-Sinai study led by geriatrician Allison Moser Mays, MD. As part of the research study, investigators followed older adults who participated in group exercise classes for six months.

“What we found is that older adults who participate in group exercise classes not only have physical benefits for their health and a decreased risk of falling, but they also have increased social connectedness and decreased levels of loneliness,” Moser Mays said.

The 10-week program offers one-hour classes twice a week. Classes are currently held in a community center in Koreatown and Cedars-Sinai plans to expand the program to other neighborhoods soon.

“By combining the fun of bingo with exercises that promote health and well-being, we aim to engage seniors in a unique and enjoyable way that supports their physical and mental health,” said Jonathan Vickburg, LMFT, associate director of Community Health Improvement (CHI) at Cedars-Sinai.

CHI programs are offered at no charge throughout the year. Their programs include lectures presented by leading health experts, immunization clinics, evidence-based fitness programs, community health screenings and events.

As part of their commitment to addressing serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease and cancer, they also work with a wide range of community partners.
