Ricky Martin won the inaugural Latin Icon Award at the 2025 Video Music Awards.

“This is for you all,” the Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actor said. “We just want to unite countries, we just want to break boundaries and we just want to keep music alive.”

He also dedicated the award to his kids Matteo, Valentina, Lucia and Renn.

But before receiving his award, he danced and sang a medley of his top hits, starting with “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and including “Maria” and ending with his World Cup song “La Copa de la Vida.”

Another Latino performance at the VMAs was J Balvin with DJ Snake, Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez performing “Zun Zun / Noventa.” The stage was filled with a 90s neon design and the audience sported neon shirts as well. During the performance, they also had people breakdancing and perreando.

None of the top awards went to a Latino artist, although KATSEYE does have a Latina in their group, who won Push Performance for “Touch.”

The Best Latin Award went to Shakira for her song “Soltera.”
