CEO Leticia Rhi Buckley’s tenure as CEO at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes came to an end on Feb. 3, after her contract was not renewed by the board of directors.

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is a cultural hub in the heart and center of Los Angeles.

She was selected as CEO in 2022, during which she developed a long-term strategic plan for LA Plaza, launched collaborative staff workshops, established an outreach and engagement department and initiated capital improvement projects, including upgrades to the outdoor space and roof repairs.

“During my tenure leading LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, I worked to ensure the institution was not only participating in but helping shape the critical conversations defining our region,” said Buckley in a written statement to CALÓ News.

“From the intersection of arts and climate, to advocating for Latino visibility in milestone events like the World Cup and the Olympics/Paralympics, LA Plaza became a trusted voice at tables where our community has too often been absent,” said Buckley.

She expressed pride in the work she accomplished as CEO of LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes.

“I’m really proud of what I led and built over these past four years. LA Plaza is a more vibrant place because of the direction I set and the incredible staff who showed up every day with heart, creativity and commitment,” wrote Buckley in a LinkedIn post.

“Leticia Rhi Buckley recently concluded her tenure as CEO of LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes,” Robert Villaseñor, chairman of the board of LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, said. “We are grateful for her service and contributions to advancing our mission and celebrating Latinx culture. LA Plaza remains focused on its strategic priorities and continued service to the community.”

“We did meaningful work together, and I’m leaving knowing that the organization thrived during my time there,” Buckley said.
