On Tuesday, Los Angeles Measure PRK passed with 77.61% “yes” vote, according to Decision Desk HQ, amending the city charter to increase the minimum budget allocated to the Department of Recreation and Parks.

The measure will help fund a variety of services for Angelenos without raising taxes. Some of those services include: repairing aging facilities, planting trees, improving safety, maintaining playgrounds, staffing, extending programs and addressing gaps in park equity.

Those who support the measure are Los Angeles Unified School District, Westside Young Democrats, United Teachers Los Angeles, Democrats Neighborhood Action, SEIU 721, Community Coalition, Climate Reality Los Angeles and many others.

According to the analysis, Measure PRK would double the minimum allocation to $986 million by 2036.

“The decisive passage of Measure PRK represents a historic victory for everyday Angelenos who rely on our parks as safe spaces to gather, play, and build community,” said Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. “This win belongs to the incredible coalition led by the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust and the Trust for Public Land, which included youth champions, working families, and community organizers across every corner of the city—who came together to demand equitable, well-maintained public spaces. Investing in our parks is investing in the health, dignity, and future of Los Angeles, and I am deeply grateful to the voters for making that vision a reality. The passage of this measure will transform our City’s parks and open spaces over the next generation.”
