The 10th Annual Festival Chapin Los Angeles comes back to LA

To all the Chapines of Los Angeles, get ready because it's time to celebrate, as the largest Guatemalan festival outside of Guatemala is headed back to L.A. for its annual celebration. This year's event will commemorate the Caribbean/Guatemalan roots of the Garifuna people.  

The 10th Annual Festival Chapin Los Angeles is set to take place August 29 and 30 at Lafayette Park in Los Angeles, with a press conference scheduled for Thursday, August 27. 

Organizers of the festival said, “We are pleased to announce that the theme of the 2026 Festival Chapin Los Angeles will be the municipality of Puerto Barrios, Izabal, representing the Guatemalan Caribbean, the gateway to Guatemala through the Atlantic Ocean for thousands of tourists, imports and exports.”

The free two-day festival, spanning a seven-block stretch in the heart of the Guatemalan community at Lafayette Park, will include Guatemalan music, arts and crafts and delicious traditional Guatemalan food. Parking will also be available at 720 N. Heliotrope, Los Angeles, Lot #3.

Additionally, for the first time, the Festival Chapin Los Angeles will host a group of small business owners, artisans and providers of different services, who will be sponsored by the Ministry of Economy of Guatemala. 

Other scheduled festivities for the event include live performance from the Official Marimba of the Chapin Festival Los Angeles, a lineup of local and international singers, comedians and musical groups, which take place live on two stages.  

As part of the event, Festival Chapín de Los Ángeles, alongside the Guatemalan Olympic Committee, will prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games by establishing La Casa Guatemala (Guatemala House) during the event with an appearance by Guatemalan Olympic medalists and by Lester Martínez, WBC Interim Super-Middleweight Boxing Champion.
