As we get closer for the historic FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA announces Spain is first place in FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Ranking. To the excitement and amusement of many, Spain, champion of the World Cup in 2010, is rising to first place after winning the UEFA EURO 2024. This is a mark they have not occupied in the men’s game since 2014.

This ranking is after more than 200 relevant national-team matches were contested around the world.

Argentina – champion of the World Cup in 2022 – was dethroned from second to third place, and France – champion of the 2018 World Cup – is in second place.

While these are the two Hispanic countries representing the top three, there are several more representing in the top 20. Brazil is in 6th place, Colombia 13th, Mexico 14th, and Uruguay 15th. USA, which is known among Hispanics as “el equipo de todos” (everybody’s  team), ranked 16th place.

In total, 48 countries will participate in the 2026 tournament. This is the first time the FIFA expands the number of qualifying countries from the usual 32-team tournament.

This year the United States, Canada and Mexico will host 104 games in 16 cities when the global soccer event unfolds from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

Fans still have until Sept. 19 to enter a presale draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Qualifying Visa cardholders can submit an application at fifa.com/tickets for a chance to purchase tickets.
