The 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards nominees in the Outstanding Film - Streaming Or TV category include “Red, White, and Royal Blue” (Amazon Prime Video) starring Taylor Zakhar Perez, who is of Mexican, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean ancestry.

For Outstanding New Series, the Paramount+ show “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” was also nominated, but sadly it was canceled and removed from the streaming platform. It is available to view on Apple’s iTunes and Amazon. In the show there are two Latino families, and many of the actors are Latino as well. The main character is played by Marisa Davila, whose father is a first-generation Mexican American

“The Last of Us” (HBO) was also nominated as a new series, starring internet favorite Pedro Pascal, who is Chilean-American. Other nominated shows with Latino actors include “Riverdale” (Camila Mendes) and “Ted Lasso” (Cristo Fernández).

In the Outstanding Music Artist category, David Archuleta was also nominated.

Nominations cover work published, released or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2023. Criteria considered were "fair, accurate and inclusive representations; boldness and originality; impact; and overall quality."

In all, GLAAD -- the world's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization -- announced 310 nominees across 33 categories, including 29 in English and four in Spanish.

Non-competitive Special Recognition Awards were also announced for 11 projects, including seven in English and four in Spanish.

Winners will be announced in a pair of ceremonies -- March 14 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, and May 11 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City.

"For 35 years, the GLAAD Media Awards has provided the global stage for LGBTQ creators, alongside industry talent and leaders to be celebrated and supported," GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement.

"At a time when the LGBTQ community is under attack by false narratives and misinformation, when less than half of Americans say they are familiar with transgender and nonbinary people, and when one in five Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, this year's nominees powerfully reflect the realities of LGBTQ existence today, in our communities and around the globe.

"Amid a summer of union strikes across Hollywood, the stakes have never been higher to maintain the progress of LGBTQ visibility and representation across all media, from film, television, music, journalism, publishing and more," the statement continued. See the full list of nominees
