The Trump administration has committed to partially funding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) after federal courts ordered it to, but it could take weeks or even months. Local organizations are stepping in to support individuals and families who rely on these benefits.
While food banks and pantries are ramping up for increased demand across Southern California this weekend, most distribute non-perishable ingredients that require preparation, a challenge for families without stable housing, working parents with no time to cook or those without access to full kitchens.
Starting immediately on Monday, November 3 at Hope the Mission and on Tuesday, November 4 at Los Angeles Mission, both nonprofits will provide free, hot, ready-to-eat meals every single evening for individuals and families in need - no referral or qualification required. This collaborative effort addresses a critical reality: hunger doesn't always look like homelessness, and access matters as much as availability. This program will continue until SNAP benefits are fully restored.
Both organizations are also accepting donations of items such as pasta noodles, pasta sauce, canned or dry beans, or rice. Donations can be made at Hope’s North Hills headquarters and downtown at the Los Angeles Mission.
