The killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent has shaken the nation to its core, and the tremors have been felt in Los Angeles as well.
As protests erupted on Wednesday night, La Placita Olvera was witness to more than 100 community members and immigrant rights organizations denouncing the killing of 37-year-old Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
"We demand justice for Renee Nicole Good," Michelle from the Party for Socialism and Liberation said at the Placita Olvera protest on Wednesday. "We demand an end to ICE's reign of terror across this country from Minneapolis to Pasadena, Los Angeles, Chicago, everywhere." She also called it "state-sanctioned murder."
“We are witnessing unconscionable levels of escalating violence by ICE agents against anyone who objects to their random, unlawful kidnappings of community members," said Angelica Salas, executive director for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
Before the killing of Good, the nation and the world woke up Saturday morning to the news that the Trump Administration deposed Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, who was removed from Caracas and taken to New York, where he and his wife Cilia Flores plead not guilty to federal weapons and drug-related charges.
United Nations leaders denounced the action by the Trump Administration. Community members in L.A. have protested against the military action in Venezuela.
This week is marked by tensions escalating between supporters and detractors of the Trump Administration's actions in Venezuela, as well as its federal deportation tactics.
Here in L.A., organizers and community members have also commemorated last January's wildfires.
Governor Gavin Newsom painted a positive outlook for the state in his final address to the state.
In Pasadena, community leader Jose Madera was arrested and then released after a protest.
