New signs that say “ICE stole someone here” with a butterfly behind bars were placed from Pomona to Coachella Valley last weekend to mark places where ICE has taken people.

According to Citizens4Ontario, 120 signs were placed throughout the Inland Empire. They were designed by Pomona-based artist Jaime Muñoz

“We wanted the art to acknowledge the overwhelming experience of immigrants being kidnapped off the streets on their way and at jobs that are the foundations of our communities,” Citizens4Ontario posted on Instagram.

The Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice supported this project.

The community groups had previously posted signs in October, but most were taken down. Even some of the new ones posted this weekend have already been taken down.

The Inland Empire has 4.6 million residents, according to UC Riverside
