Local organizers are calling attention to the invitation from the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Department to Customs and Border Patrol to their job fair, which will be held on February 11.
“With the recent murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents, along with the ongoing terrorizing and disappearance of immigrants throughout the country, DHS is complicit in the violence being carried out under Trump and Miller’s reign,” a post on social media from Indivisible Inland Empire states.
According to the county’s website, they have a hiring event at Chino Hills Community Center.
After people called on the department, organizers posted an update that they were told the decision came from County Supervisor Curt Hagman, 4th District.
However, David Wert, public information officer of San Bernardino County, said in an email to CALÓ News, "It is absolutely untrue that County Supervisor Curt Hagman had anything to do with Customs and Border Patrol’s planned participation in the job fair. County Supervisors are not involved in this process."
Wert also stated he is "also confident that no one in the department would have told anyone that Supervisor Hagman was involved in the decision to include CBP."
Last year, Cal Poly Pomona’s job fair was canceled or postponed due to backlash after the university invited the Department of Homeland Security to participate.
Organizers called on the county to “read the room.”
