SELA Voting Guide | CALÓ News Midterm Coverage
If you live in L.A., the number of measures you see on your ballot come Nov. 3 will differ, depending on the city you reside in. But all Angelenos will see at least two that apply to the entire county.
Measure A: Public Safety Employee Disputes Measure
If passed by voters, Measure A will give public safety employees, including the fire department, sheriff's department, district attorney investigators, medical examiners, lifeguards, supervisors and non-administrative civilian employees, a fair process to negotiate fair pay and benefits. This would include an independent three-member arbitral tribunal that would step in to decide contract negotiations if they should fail between unionized county workers and government officials.
Those in support of the measure include the California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, L.A. County Lifeguards Association, County Coalition of Unions, Burbank Firefighters IAFF Local 778, Long Beach Firefighters Local 372, Safer L.A. County and more.
Measure E: Ethics Commission Measure
If Measure E passes, it would give structure to the new L.A. County Ethics Commission, Office of Ethics Compliance and Ethics Compliance Officer — approved by voters in 2024. Measure E would increase the independence of the commission to investigate county officials and enforce county ethics, campaign finance, lobbying and conflict-of-interest laws. It will also investigate complaints, conduct audits, issue subpoenas and impose penalties on violators.
Measure E is supported by Common Cause California, California Clean Money Campaign, League of Women Voters of L.A. County, AAPI Equity Alliance and Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath.
