We’re hosting ‘El Mitote’ to celebrate LA’s Latinidad. And you’re invited

As Latino Heritage Month continues, a night dedicated to “honoring our people celebrating through the storm” comes to the heart of Los Angeles through “El Mitote.”

Hosted on Friday, Oct. 2 by the Latino Media Collaborative, CALÓ News’ parent organization dedicated to expanding and strengthening the Latino media landscape in California and the Southwest, the evening will celebrate the power of hope, progress and the leaders creating meaningful change — all over great music, drinks and conversation. 

As our communities and organizations continue to face unprecedented challenges, celebrating Latinidad is more important than ever. “El Mitote” intends to highlight the importance of Latino leadership, representation and public service by elevating emerging and established Latino voices, inspiring future leaders and increasing the visibility of our community’s impact in Los Angeles.

The event, to be held at the Cargo Shake Shack at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, will feature honoree recognitions, keynotes and intentional networking to foster connections across sectors — media, healthcare, education, finance, entertainment and more.

The goal, according to the Latino Media Collaborative, is “to build a movement of Latino professionals that want to make a difference and want to celebrate with us in this fantastic event.”

Among the honorees are Vanessa Aramayo, CEO of Alliance for a Better Community, where she leads the organization in advancing a proactive Latino agenda across multiple sectors, ensuring the needs and priorities of the L.A. region’s growing Latino community are met, and Berenice Nuñez Constant, the senior vice president of government affairs and civic engagement at AltaMed. Her work helps lead the healthcare organization’s policy, advocacy and legislative agendas.

Also being recognized for their work is Martha Diaz Aszkenazy, publisher of the San Fernando Valley Sun, which has reflected the Valley’s historical and cultural development for over a century, where a majority 42% Latino population resides.

In addition to celebrating Latinidad, some of the proceeds from the event will directly support community causes, including immigration defense efforts and community funds.

Date and Time: Friday, Oct. 2, 6 - 9 p.m.

Place: Cargo Shake Shack at the Los Angeles State Historic Park - 1279 N Spring St, Los Angeles.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required. 

Public parking lots are available near the Chinatown / LA State Historic Park Metro rail station.
