A free Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) event presented by the LA Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID) will take place this Sunday.
They invite the community to honor their loved ones through a community altar and a special live performance by the all-female mariachi group, Mariachi Las Catrinas, on Sunday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the 8th & San Pedro Median.
Community members and visitors can contribute photos, memorabilia and personal tributes to the altar, which will be on display from October 24 to November 2. The altar serves as a collective space to honor deceased loved ones, with candles and cempasúchil (orange marigolds) provided to enhance the altar’s traditional beauty.
“We are incredibly proud and excited to bring this Día de los Muertos celebration to the heart of the LA Fashion District for the third year in a row, where so many in our community share a deep connection to this holiday,” said Anthony Rodriguez, President & CEO for the LA Fashion District BID. “Mariachi music and the traditions of Día de los Muertos are woven into the cultural fabric of our neighborhood, and this special event offers a unique opportunity for everyone—whether they’re part of the Latino community or simply want to experience the richness of this holiday—to come together, celebrate life, and honor those we have lost. We invite everyone to join us for this free, vibrant celebration.”
This event is part of a broader Día de los Muertos celebration hosted by the LA Fashion District BID from October 24 to November 2, with the community altar remaining open throughout the week for personal tributes.
