The Horsemen

The Horsemen from Montebello will be part of the Battle of the Bands at Art Jam in DTLA.

A free, all-ages youth arts and music event in Downtown LA called Art Jam will feature a teen Battle of the Bands, interactive art installations, and youth-designed apparel.

The Battle of the Bands will feature 14 youth bands from across Los Angeles performing rock, punk, indie, metal, and alternative music live on the main stage, with the audience voting as the competition unfolds. The grand prize: a full day in a professional recording studio.

One of the bands performing, The Horsemen, is from Montebello.

“Art Jam is giving them a space where they can feel safe to express themselves,” said Jessica Martinez, mother of Isaiah,11, and Eli Rodriguez, 9, of the band The Horsemen. “You can see that confidence carry into how they speak, collaborate and present themselves as a band.”

“As a mom, seeing these kids step onto a real stage in front of a real audience shows them that their dreams are valid and possible,” said Adriana Robledo, whose son Kevin Gomez,11, also performs with The Horsemen.

Attendees will have the option paint on a glow-in-the-dark art wall, contribute to giant collaborative coloring sheets and watch a live car painting activation. A ten-foot-tall inflatable bear designed by 14-year-old Nico Lopez anchors the space, alongside a temporary tattoo station, youth photography showcase, and additional hands-on creative activities. The event also features food vendors, a beer garden and an outdoor supercar display.

“Art Jam was created to amplify the voices of young artists in Los Angeles,” said Jesse Cohen, Founder of Mount of Angels, the nonprofit producing the event alongside Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Charities.

Community partners appearing at the event include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles, Friends of the Los Angeles River, and Supercar Wishes Foundation.

The event will be on Sunday, March 22, at Boomtown Brewery in Downtown Los Angeles, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
