Mattel created a 2024 Premium Día de Muertos Barbie collaborating with Mexican designer Kris Goyri and it is sold out.
The doll is different from the other 2024 Día de Muertos barbie, which has a black dress with bright flowers.
The Goyri doll has a white dress with strategically placed marigold flowers, known as Cempasúchitl in Nahuatl. It also features a turquoise necklace with a gold sun shape in the center, which match the golden sun earrings. The doll’s face is painted in traditional catrina style. The whole ensemble is completed by a colorful belt and red shoes.
Goyri and Barbie Style posted in Instagram the design is inspired by the “Mictlán” from Nahua mythology, which details the path a soul travels through time and space to cross into the world of the dead, guided by the sacred dog, Xolo.
The doll was available at Mattel for $100 but is now sold out.
