The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) partnered with Cal State LA to launch the Inaugural Summer Institute, taking place from June 27 to June 29.

The program welcomes 50 high school students for an immersive on-campus experience, featuring engaging workshops focused on college access, public policy, advocacy and community empowerment. The Inaugural Summer Institute was designed to develop students’ leadership potential and increase their knowledge of the region’s cultural and political landscape.

“At CLYLP, we are committed to strengthening the cultural identity, educational achievement, and civic engagement of students across California, a mission that we share with the California State University system,” said Dr. Luisa Ortega, executive firector of CLYLP. “As part of its broader commitment to equity and educational opportunity, the CSU system continues to serve as a valued partner in this work. CSU campuses host our Central Valley Institute and our Statewide Leadership Conference, and now, we’re very proud to bring our institute to Cal State LA.”

CLYLP, is a nonprofit organization with the goal of building California’s youth. For over 40 years, it has empowered more than 7,000 high school students through programs that strengthen academic readiness, boost self-confidence, promote cultural awareness and deepen understanding of state and local government.

“The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project has a powerful legacy of nurturing the next generation of civic and community leaders,” said Omar Gonzales, executive director of External Affairs and University Relations at Cal State LA. “As a proud alumnus, I know firsthand how transformative CLYLP’s programs are in helping students embrace their cultural identity, develop their leadership voice, and chart a path to higher education and public service. On behalf of Cal State LA, we are honored to welcome CLYLP to our campus and to embark on this collaboration to prepare California’s future leaders.”

CLYLP also offers multi-day regional and statewide leadership conferences for high school students, as well as scholarships, fellowships, and a statewide network for alumni and volunteers.
