La Original Banda El Limón releases a corrido dedicated to Vice President Kamala Harris

In the days leading up to the presidential election, La Original Banda El Limón released a corrido dedicated to vice president Kamala Harris called “Señora Presidenta.” 

“Señora Presidenta” entails the story of Harris as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. If you're familiar with banda music, then you know that it's fueled with banda instruments like trumpets, clarinets, and guitars. This three-minute song also talks about the beginning and current state of how Harris has become a political leader for many individuals. It also states that the candidate comes from a humble place and that she is here to fight for her people. “Señora Presidenta” shows how music and entertainment have played a significant role in this year's election, particularly among Latinos. For a very long time, corridos have been a traditional Mexican way of spreading information and storytelling among the community.

Juan Barboza Lizárraga, leader of La Original Banda El Limón, explained in a statement about the band's decision to release the song and officially endorse the candidate for president: “We are honored to release this corrido—not just in support of Vice President Harris—but as an ode to our community. Our culture, traditions and music are beautiful and powerful, just like our community,” Lizárraga said. “We hope that in these final moments, the song inspires our community to embrace our strength and together to show up in a critical moment. This song reflects the values of our community and our vision for a future where people matter.”

 In almost 60 years of playing together, La Original Banda El Limón has released 50 albums. They play rancheras, corridos, cumbias, ballads, boleros, and sones. They have been nominated for four Latin Grammy Awards, one Grammy nomination, and have won three Latin Grammy awards. On January 15, 2025, the band will celebrate its 60th anniversary, consolidating itself as an institution of banda music in Mexico and the world.

Señora Presidente is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Banda Limón's YouTube page. Corridos are deeply rooted in Mexican culture, tapping into the rich and vibrant Hispanic heritage and culture. The corrido aims to mobilize Latino voters—a critical voting bloc—ahead of the 2024 election.
