CALÓ News editorial cartoonist, illustrator and Chicano artist Lalo Alcaraz has been selected as the Cartoon Award winner for the 2025 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book and Journalism Awards.
“I am honored to represent my syndicate Andrew’s McMeel Syndication, and also CALÓ News in this portfolio of editorial cartoons,” Alcaraz said.
“We are honored to recognize your work,” a spokesperson for RFK Human Rights said.
The prize is $1,000 and a bronze bust of Robert F Kennedy.
The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards were founded in 1969 to “honor a free and fair press and celebrate media professionals whose work explores issues of human rights, social justice and the power of individual action.” The winning portfolio of cartoons reflect a social justice theme.

President-elect Trump will "keep families together" by using the US Army to deport them together, and this would presumably apply to the Virgen de Guadalupe and her cherub. December 12 is the day La Virgencita is celebrated in Mexico and in our community in the United States.

Trumpy tech bros and fake Cabinet aspirants Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were caught up in a war of words against their own MAGA base regarding H1-B visas. Both boosted social media posts (or made their own) that asserted that Americans were too mediocre or stupid to do software engineering work. Meanwhile, if the Trump mass deportations happen as planned, U.S. citizens will be offered plenty of jobs in the fields they don't want to be in, namely the agricultural fields.
