Javier Hernandez, better known as “Chicharito” to most soccer fans, has apologized for his sexist comments posted in videos on social media, but he hasn’t deleted his videos.

“I sincerely thank everyone who has supported me, who has respectfully shared their perspectives with me and who has urged me to be a better person,” Hernandez said in a post on Instagram. “I deeply regret any confusion or upset my recent words have caused; it was never my intention to limit, hurt or divide. As a father, a man, and a member of this community, my priority is to act with respect, humility and responsibility. I am listening, reflecting and committed to expressing myself with greater clarity and sensitivity, especially on such sensitive topics. I believe change begins with oneself. I will take this opportunity to understand, grow and continue working to be a better version of myself, through honesty, love for my family, my values and love for all of you.”

In one of the videos, the Chivas player says that women are failing by eradicating masculinity and that they must embody "their feminine energy by caring, nurturing, receiving, multiplying, cleaning and sustaining the home, which is the most precious place for us men."

Many of the comments have reminded him that he is a divorced man and is seeking alimony.

"Let's not speak for women; history itself shows us how little we have understood about them," comments another user.

After the soccer player published his videos, various leaders commented on the topics he covered, including the Mexican president, who, for the first time in history, is a woman.

"He's a very good soccer player, Chicharito," said President Claudia Sheinbaum. "But in the case of his opinion regarding women, well, I think he still has a lot to learn, because women can be whatever they want, and it's a relationship of equality."

As a result of the comments, Liga MX, Puma, and Club Deportivo Guadalajara have issued statements emphasizing the importance of gender equality. Liga MX has also imposed sanctions on the player.

Even members of the Chivas women's team criticized Chicharito for making such comments and filed formal complaints.

According to Infobae, the forward will not return to the Chivas team at the end of the tournament as the board has decided not to renew his contract.
