Olympians and Paralympians celebrate LA28 at the L.A. Coliseum. (Office of Mayor Karen Bass)

The Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games invites fans from around the globe to apply and join its volunteer crew program and help bring two of the world’s largest sporting events to life.

Saturday marked a major milestone for LA28, as the organization launched its volunteer application process exactly two years before the Opening Ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games.

“As fans fill the seats and athletes take the global stage, behind every event, every venue and every moment is the LA28 volunteer crew,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement.

“Volunteers are the backbone of the Games. They are a friendly face who helps welcome the world, create memorable experiences and bring the Olympic and Paralympic spirit to life. Their passion and energy will help define LA28 or athletes, fans and communities across the region,” Hoover added.

The volunteer crew, or best described as the “team behind the scenes,” will consist of 60,000 individuals. The Olympic volunteer period will run from March through August 2028, while the Paralympic volunteer period will run from August through September 2028. Each of the volunteers is expected to commit to a minimum of 10 shifts during one of those periods.

LA28 is seeking volunteers for a wide range of roles, which include ceremonies, communications, driving, medical care, language translation, operations, sports and technology.

Additionally, the organization is also welcoming people of all abilities, including those with disabilities, who meet the following requirements to apply:

- Be 18 years or older at the time of your application

-Be proficient in English (reading and writing)

-Be present at one of the following locations during the 2028 Olympic or Paralympic Games periods. Greater Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, New York City, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José and San Diego.

Applicants selected from the initial pool will be invited to participate in an in-person assessment at the Volunteer Experience Center in Los Angeles. For those selected who are unable to travel to Los Angeles, a virtual assessment option will be available.

Selected applicants will be notified via email and receive a volunteer offer through the LA28 Games-time volunteer portal. After accepting their assignment, volunteers will undergo extensive training tailored to their responsibilities throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up online to receive additional information and updates about the LA28 volunteer program.
