To mark the conclusion of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA will host Amalia Hernández’s Ballet Folklórico de México on Sunday, March 16.
Founded in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Hernández, the company offers a vibrant celebration of Mexican folklore, combining traditional music, dance and costumes that trace the rich history from pre-Columbian times to the modern-era.
“Throughout our thirty years of presenting music, dance, theatre and visual arts, The Luckman has been a meeting place for artists and audiences to come together and celebrate the universal language of creativity,” said Nicholas A. Mestas, executive director of The Luckman. “Our diverse offerings have been a catalyst for cross-cultural dialogue, while shedding light on the interconnectedness of the world’s artistic traditions.”
Hernández’s Ballet Folklórico de México is based at the iconic Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and has choreographed over 120 ballets. With a troupe of 60 folkloric dancers and musicians, the company performs extensively both in Mexico and internationally, solidifying its status as the premier folkloric dance ensemble in Mexico and beyond. Having captivated over 45 million spectators worldwide, the company has earned numerous awards for its exceptional contributions to the arts.
