Los Angeles, CA – Brotherhood Crusade is teaming up with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation, and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson for their annual Thanksgiving “Grab and Go!” Basket Distribution. The event, set for Thursday, November 21, 2024, will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Algin Sutton Recreation Center (8800 S. Hoover St., Los Angeles, CA 90047). Over 1,500 local families will receive free holiday food baskets, toys, and gift cards to help ease the burdens of the season.
“During the holiday season, families across Los Angeles experience additional hurdles and mounting pressure,” said Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. “Through our collaboration with Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation and Brotherhood Crusade, we are honored to bring relief and joy to families in South Los Angeles who we proudly serve year-round.”
The first 1,500 vehicles at the event will receive a complimentary turkey and all the trimmings, including vegetables, cornbread dressing, and more. Additionally, the first 1,000 cars will receive a gift card to ensure families have everything they need for a full holiday meal.
This initiative is part of Brotherhood Crusade’s ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity and provide essential support to families in need, especially during the holidays. Founded in 1968, the organization remains dedicated to envisioning a South Los Angeles free from health disparities, disenfranchisement, and the adverse public health conditions often linked to poverty.
“This Thanksgiving, we’re coming together as a community to ensure that no family is left behind,” said Charisse Bremond Weaver, President & CEO of Brotherhood Crusade. “We are deeply grateful to our partners—the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation, and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson—for their unwavering support in making this event possible.”
Since 2020, the LADF and 50/50 Foundation have contributed over $550,000 to Brotherhood Crusade to help address these pressing needs. Beyond distributing meals, the partners are focused on spreading kindness and ensuring that families in South Los Angeles can enjoy a warm, memorable Thanksgiving.
“Thanksgiving is such a meaningful time for my wife, Brianna, and me because it’s all about being thankful for our families and community,” said Mookie Betts. “5050 Foundation is especially thankful to the Dodgers Foundation for their support of our 50 Feeds LA Campaign, which has provided 400,000 meals this year to local families in need and supported Brotherhood Crusade in the fight against food insecurity.”
