Metro is expected to implement a weekend closure of Wilshire Boulevard to support final paving for its D (Purple) Line Subway Extension Project.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 6 a.m. Monday, Wilshire Boulevard will be fully closed between Western Avenue and St. Andrews Place. The closure will allow crews to conduct final paving work west of the Wilshire/Western intersection.
A detour route will be in place.
Drivers will be able to travel eastbound on Wilshire down southbound Crenshaw Boulevard, back east on Olympic Boulevard and northbound on Western and return eastbound on Wilshire.
Drivers heading westbound on Wilshire will head southbound down Western, travel westbound on Olympic, and turn northbound on Crenshaw, returning westbound on Wilshire.
Metro bus stops may be relocated and lines could be impacted. For information on changes to Metro service, customers are encouraged to call 323-GoMetro. Additionally, customers can use the agency's Transit App to plan their travel, which can be found at www.metro.net/riding/rider-apps/.
According to Metro, all work during the weekend received necessary permits and approvals.
Pedestrians will be allowed to travel in the area with access outside of the construction zone. Access for emergency responders will be maintained as well.
The agency noted that construction is a dynamic process and may require additional updates throughout the weekend.
If work cannot be completed by Monday, the agency may implement another closure on Aug. 22-25. A 24/7 hotline for information is available at 213-922-6934.
The project will add seven new stations between downtown and the Westside.
Project construction began in 2019. The Metro D Line Subway Extension Project is being built in three sections:
Section 1: Wilshire/La Brea Station, Wilshire/Fairfax Station and Wilshire/La Cienega Station; slated to open fall 2025.
Section 2: Beverly Dr Station and Century City Station; slated to open in 2026.
Section 3: Westwood/UCLA Station and Westwood/VA Hospital Station; slated to open in 2027.
