Gustavo Camacho selected as mayor pro tem as John R. Garcia becomes Pico Rivera’s mayor

John R. Garcia prepares to be the new mayor of Pico Rivera as Gustavo Camacho is selected to be mayor pro tem. 

“I am deeply honored to assume the role of mayor for the coming year, and I thank my fellow council members for their trust and support,” said Garcia. “Together, we have an incredible opportunity to impact our city meaningfully.”

The incoming mayor said he will prioritize economic development and attracting new businesses that bring jobs and opportunities to the Pico Rivera community.

As mayor, Garcia will lead as the city has begun or completed projects, including the expansion of the PRIME Power Choice program, the city’s residential roof solar and battery program aimed to reduce monthly energy bills, construction of the Passons Active Depot Park, implementation of the Historic Whittier Boulevard Plan, replacing residential water meters and expand recreation program for residents and enhanced programs for seniors and veterans.

Mayor Pro Tem Camacho is a 15-year city council veteran and resident of Pico Rivera. Camacho has volunteered in youth coaching, assisting veterans and serving on numerous boards and commissions over the last two decades. The mayor pro tem is responsible for setting meeting agendas before council meetings and adding emergency agenda items when necessary.
