On Thursday, December 18, in observance of International Migrants Day, community members and organizations, including Defend Migrants Alliance and the International Migrants Alliance, will gather to rally in front of Adelanto City Hall, which overlooks one of California’s largest detention centers.

Activists from other organizations, including United Domestic Workers, Power to the High Desert, Asian Youth Collective, and others, will also share stories that foster understanding and urge communities to unite in defense of migrants facing inhumane conditions and escalating attacks.

Since the beginning of Trump’s presidency this year, the administration has collaborated with several government agencies in the increase of immigration operations. Adelanto’s detention center, holding over 1,200 detainees, is one of the largest in California and has been reported to have unsanitary and inhumane conditions, emphasizing the community's need to defend migrant rights urgently.

Grassroots organizations have played a key role in winning victories that prevent migrants from facing deportation and inhumane treatment in detention centers. Benjamin Marcelo Guerrero-Cruz, a student from Reseda High School, who had been detained since August, was released to his family last week.

The 18-year-old was held in San Bernardino County’s Adelanto Detention Facility  and later  transferred to a facility in Arizona without his family’s knowledge. With the help of  the Community Self-Defense Coalition, Union del Barrio, Association of Raza Educators and other community-based organizations, his release wouldn't have happened.

To join the rally with other human rights activists and organizations in honor of International Migrants Day, see the information below.
