Southern California organizers call for solidarity with Minneapolis to close down, not work or shop on Friday, January 30.
Some local businesses will also close to show support for the immigrant community.
The National Day of Action to Shut it Down calls for a nationwide day of no school, no work and no shopping on Friday. The site includes different actions in several cities throughout the country.
Los Angeles businesses like Bar Flores in Echo Park will be closed “in communion with immigrants, strikers, protestors and concerned communities all across the country,” they posted on their Instagram account. LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes will also close. “We stand firmly with our community in solidarity, justice, and peace,” their social media account says.
Inland Empire community organizers, small businesses and directly impacted families will speak today.
Inland Coalition 4 Immigrant Justice, Inland Empire Labor Council, Slow Bloom Coffee Co-op, the Party for Socialism and Liberation - I.E., UAW Local 4811, Pomona Economic Opportunity Center, Amazon workers and Riverside Council Member Clarissa Cervantes will be speaking In Riverside.
“We must show our collective strength until ICE is permanently removed from our communities," a statement from the Party for Socialism and Liberation says. “This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a systemic campaign of terror against immigrant communities.”
