Fortnite, the popular video game, has officially added “La Chona” to its Fortnite Festival, marking another milestone for the legendary Mexican group Los Tucanes de Tijuana.

“La Chona,” has been added to the Fortnite Festival catalog, which became available as a Jam Track in the item shop on Friday, November 21. Once the announcement was made on social platforms it immediately sparked excitement among gamers and fans of Los Tucanes de Tijuana. A user on Instagram commented, “‘La Chona’ is about to be the best victory royale song,” and another one said, “‘La Chona’ is a big festival win this week.”

This iconic and infectious rhythm and energetic norteño style song promises to create one of the most fun and viral moments inside Fortnite Festival. Players will be able to perform the song within the rhythm-based mode, developed by Harmonix, the creators of Rock Band, where up to four players can form a virtual band and play guitar, drums, bass, keyboard or take on vocal parts.

By teaming up with the group, Fortnite continues to demonstrate its commitment to celebrating diverse music and artists from around the world through its immersive gameplay. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are one of the most influential Mexican musical groups that have been alongside the U.S. Latino community and its past presidential campaigns. The group has been very verbal and is not afraid to demonstrate where the group stands politically.

Another way that the six-man band communicates with the community is through their song “De Paisano a Paisano,” which details the experience of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in search of a better life, experiencing abuse and discrimination, but wanting to be buried back in their homeland after death.

The song also happens to be a strong sentiment for many immigrant families, especially in today's political climate, where many Latinos are being targeted, deported and discriminated against since Donald Trump took over the presidency and signed multiple executive orders that aggressively target the undocumented community.

Just recently the group also performed at the Don’t Fall in Love Fest in San Bernardino and of course they played “La Chona” as well of their other popular songs to the audience. Now that “La Chona” is part of Fortnite’s digital universe, fans of both the game and the iconic band are celebrating it as a victory for regional Mexican representation, once again proving that Los Tucanes de Tijuana’s music transcends across both sides of the borders.
