The Kheir Clinic will host an emergency CalFresh food and diaper distribution on Thursday, November 13, in collaboration with Councilwoman Heather Hutt (CD10), to assist families affected by delays in CalFresh benefits due to the federal shutdown.
The distribution will take place in the parking lot of the clinic, located at 3727 W. 6th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020 (at the corner of 6th Street and Harvard Boulevard). The gates will open at 10:30 a.m., and items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Eligible participants must present an EBT card or other documentation confirming their CalFresh enrollment. Each household will receive a bag of nutritious food and toilet paper, and diapers will be given to families with children present. The event will take place rain or shine.
“In times of crisis, community health centers like Kheir must commit to meeting the needs that threaten the stability of families,” said Erin Pak, Executive Director of the Kheir Clinic. “This emergency distribution reflects our shared responsibility to ensure that every household, especially those with young children, has access to the essentials for health and dignity.”
More than 5.5 million Californians face uncertainty regarding their CalFresh benefits for November. A federal court ordered the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to release full SNAP funding; however, the Supreme Court issued a temporary stay that has delayed its implementation. Although a partial reprocessing is underway, the timing and amount of benefits remain uncertain, leaving many families in immediate need of assistance.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure access to the supplies. For more information, text Kheir Clinic at (213) 632-5521.
