Lalo on CALÓ: Dr. Loco concert poster
This is the poster for the epic concert that will be rocking tonight behind the Pearly Gates when Dr. Loco, AKA Dr. Jose Cuellar, gets to town. Jose passed away last week at age 84, and was known widely in Chicano academic circles for being an anthropologist and also a popular band leader. I was fortunate to have had him as my academic advisor at San Diego State University when I was an undergrad Aztec in the 80s. I later got to perform alongside his group, the Rockin' Jalapeño Band, as a comedian in my then-group the Chicano Secret Service. And even luckier, I got to party at his fun raucous shows at every MEChA conference and all sorts of Chicano events. Dr. Loco spread political consciousness and musical knowledge on his long journey. He will be missed.
