Young Miko has become the newest face for a Gap campaign where she performs her song “Wassup.”
The Puerto Rican Latin trap rapper and singer, whose given name is María Victoria Ramírez de Arellano Cardona, premiered her Gap ad video on Tuesday, March 10.
The video is directed by Bethany Vargas and was shot by Olivia Malone. It features choreography by Zoi Tatopoulos, where Young Miko and backup dancers are all wearing grey sweatpants and hoodies. Later in the video, they are shown wearing a black combination of the athleisure designs.
The song was released in 2025 on her album “Do Not Disturb.”
"Puerto Rico influences everything I do — the way I talk, express myself, dress, live and see the world. It’s my home and the culture that shaped who I am today," said Young Miko. "This music video was an amazing experience, and working with Gap felt natural because they gave me the space to express myself and my culture authentically. It’s such a beautiful way to keep showing love to a song the fans really connected with. This time there’s dancing, people sharing a new space with me and I’m very excited for everyone to see it."
Vargas also directed the KATSEYE Gap commercial “Better in Denim,” which many saw as a response to the controversial eugenics-laced campaign from American Eagle. Gap’s commercial highlighted women and men of color dancing against a white background.
Vargas is Mexican American and has worked with Latino artist Kali Uchis and The Marias. She has also worked with Lady Gaga on her top hit “Abracadabra.”
The white background has been a staple behind Gap’s ads since the 90s when they featured their khakis collection with a swing song. Remember the swing revival of the 90s? Young Miko had just been born in 1997.
Young Miko recently opened select dates for Billie Eilish in 2025. She has also collaborated with Karol G, Feid and Bad Bunny.
