CALÓ News salutes Latino service members and veterans with a video featuring two Latinos.
“Being a Hispanic in the military, I feel really proud,” said Angel Estrada, 20, from Baldwin Park, who is in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Estrada is proud of looking at his last name on his uniform right next to where it says, U.S. Marines.
“Being a Latino in the military there’s a lot of achievements that maybe other people don’t think that we can do and they see the great aspects [that we can] achieve and be part of the community,” Estrada said.
Jaime Garcia Lira, 42, is a US Marine Corps veteran who served three times from 2001 to 2005 and from 2007 to 2008 in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Lira was born in Mexico and said he is proud to have represented Mexico and the U.S.
This month, we salute Latino service members and Veterans. Thank you for contributing to our country. Nobody can take away what you do. This video is sponsored by Walmart.
He said there have been pros and cons after serving. “It took a while to adjust.”
Lira is now going to community college to pursue a degree in business. “So I could show my son anything is possible in life.”
