The L.A. County Fair is back for another year, featuring carnival attractions, vibrant visual art, mouthwatering food, and a lineup of music performances that are well known in the Latino community.

Los Ángeles Azules, Mariachi Vargas, and Alicia Villareal have already made appearances at the fair, but it seems like Los Tucanes de Tijuana has been the only musical group to give a sold-out concert.

This past Sunday, May 18, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, a renowned regional Mexican music group, delivered an outstanding performance in front of thousands of fans in Los Angeles County — home to 4.75 million Latino Angelenos.

Not only did they play their iconic “La Chona” song but also “Mundo de Amor” for the real lovers, as announced by the group from the stage. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are one of the most influential Mexican  musical groups who have been alongside the U.S. Latino community and its past presidential campaigns.

The group has been very verbal and is not afraid to demonstrate where the group stands politically. Another way that the six-man band communicates with the community is through their song “De Paisano a Paisano,” which details the experience of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in search of a better life, experiencing abuse and discrimination, but wanting to be buried back in your homeland after death.

The song also happens to be a strong sentiment for many immigrant families, especially in today's political climate, where many Latinos are being targeted, deported and discriminated against since Donald Trump has taken over the presidency and has signed multiple executive orders that aggressively target the undocumented community.

This weekend was a meaningful experience for many who attended the sold-out concert, a time of joy, celebration and a powerful reminder that La Raza is stronger when united with iconic music.
