The L.A. Dodgers are not doing a good job backing up why they seem to support the current ICE mass deportation kidnapping raids happening to our community. Ever been to a Dodger game? About half of the fans there appear to be Latino, and especially Mexican American. Well, since the Dodgers actually do a good job hosting Cultural Heritage nights, maybe they should just go full fash and support ICE Bobblehead night! Don't bring your ID!

In early July comedian and actor George Lopez called out the Los Angeles Dodgers for blocking him on social media after he spoke about the team's silence on the ongoing ICE raids taking place throughout the region.

“The Dodgers blocked me on social media for my criticism of the team, so they’ll take a stand on me, but not on the treatment of the families who called Chavez Ravine home before they decided to build a baseball stadium where they lived and where their families called home,” Lopez said in an Instagram post, pointing out that the team had already displaced a predominantly Mexican community to make way for the iconic stadium.

“Also no comment from the owners,” Lopez added. “What’s happening everyday to the families of the people who are being treated like they don’t belong? If anyone doesn’t belong, it’s the Dodgers.”

In the same video of him dancing while also explaining why he was blocked, he said that because he believes the team hasn’t taken a stand for those impacted by the ICE raids, the team should have ICE agents dress up as the competing team.

“Since the Dodgers have stayed silent on the issue of the treatment and enforcement of ICE on the Latino community, maybe at the next fan fest or homestand they can have ICE agents or these bounty hunters dress up as the visiting team and during the seventh inning stretch they can remove fans, since their loyalty to the team means nothing to them,” Lopez posited. “Oh throwing money at it with silence.”

But this isn’t the first time the Dodgers have gotten called out for their silence. At the beginning of the year, NBC News' Jacob Soboroff reported that federal agents were staging outside of Dodger Stadium amidst the immigration operations. Many started to drive down to the stadium to boycott the team immediately.

The Dodgers later took to social media to clarify that ICE agents had approached Dodger Stadium requesting access to the parking lots, but the organization denied them entry to the grounds.

However, shortly after, the official ICE X account posted that the Dodgers' claim was incorrect and that agents never asked to access the Dodger Stadium parking lots. Since this incident the team was called out for not putting out a statement or standing in solidarity with their community, the majority of whom are Latino.

As CALÓ News reported earlier, it took two weeks of daily pressure from the community for the Dodgers to talk about the raids and announce their $1 million monetary donation for immigrant families affected by the raids.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, whose current net worth is valued at $7.73 billion, according to a March 2025 valuation by SportsPro, have increased by 23% in value compared to the previous year. The team's highest-paid player, Shohei Ohtani, has a 10-year, $700 million contract, averaging $70 million per year. Mookie Betts is their second-highest-paid player, averaging $30 million per year.

“What’s happening in Los Angeles has reverberated among thousands upon thousands of people,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said at the time. “We have heard the calls for us to take a leading role on behalf of those affected. By committing resources and taking action, we will continue to support and uplift the communities of Greater Los Angeles.”

Nearly 2,800 undocumented migrants have been arrested by Homeland Security officers since the beginning of June, according to data from The New York Times

The mass deportations are part of President Donald Trump’s pledge to carry out the largest deportation effort in U.S. history, giving ICE broad authority to arrest and detain undocumented migrants anywhere, including sensitive locations like schools and places of worship, which the community has already witnessed with the recent arrest of the 18-year-old Benjamin Marcelo Guerrero-Cruz and the raid that happened at the church in Downey.
