After Jaime Alanís García, 57, died attempting to flee from immigration agents, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum says her government is looking at the possibility of a lawsuit against the United States.

“It’s very lamentable for this to occur,” she said during her morning press conference on Tuesday. “We are also looking at the possibility of suing, because this is unacceptable.”

Sheinbaum said they are working with the family, including his wife and child, who are in Mexico and were receiving the money García would send from the U.S.

García, who is originally from Michoacán, was working at the Camarillo, California cannabis farm when immigration agents raided the facilities. After he attempted to flee and hide, he fell from the roof of a building. He died days later from injuries he suffered from the 30-foot fall.

According to Newsweek, he was admitted to a Ventura hospital last Thursday with fractures to his skull and neck, along with a ruptured artery supplying blood to his brain.

Yesenia Duran, niece of García, created a GoFundMe for her uncle, where she raised $167,986.

“We are very thankful to everyone who helped donate to my uncle and his family,” Duran posted in the GoFundMe page. “We are truly grateful with the entire community supporting him. At this moment we are closing donations. We are thankful to every single person. We are seeking justice for my uncle, any witnesses to come forward.”
