"Stop the Dis(information)" wins Bronze Telly in "Public Interest & Awareness" category.
CALÓ News, the Latino/a/x news site for SoCal and the Southwest, LatiNation Media, the Latino-owned multiplatform media company, and comedian/actor Al Madrigal have won a Bronze Telly Award in “Public Interest & Awareness” today for the 2024 social awareness video campaign, “Stop the Dis(Information).”
The nine-episode short-form video campaign was created to combat the widespread dissemination of disinformation, hoaxes and “fake news” that cycled through the Latino community during the 2024 elections. Madrigal starred in and led the campaign that aired on LatiNation’s linear channel LATV, its LatiNation app, and on the digital news platform, CALONews.com.
"I couldn't be prouder of this short-form series for presenting an honest and factual approach to discussing the spread of disinformation among Latino voters,” Madrigal said. “While our work is far from over, I hope we continue to rise with one voice to identify and squash anyone intentionally sowing confusion in our community."
“We are honored to be awarded the Bronze Telly for this series. It was an important campaign that we were all passionate about producing and sharing,” Andres Palencia, CEO of LatiNation Media, said. “We believe in the freedom and rights our election process affords, and we hope the message of dispelling disinformation continues to be pushed to the top of the conversation.”
“We will continue to report on ways to identify and combat disinformation,” said Martin Albornoz, General Manager, CALÓ News. “We want to give our audience the tools to beat this new form of propaganda.”
Stop the Dis(Information) was produced by CALÓ News and LatiNation Media/LATV. Al Madrigal and Jason Ross (formerly of “The Daily Show with John Stewart”) served as executive producers and writers, in addition to executive producers Flavio Morales, Martin Albornoz of CALÓ News, and Andres Palencia and Bruno Ulloa for LatiNation Media.
The series was one of over 13,000 entries from top video and television content producers worldwide. The Telly Awards Judging Council chose the winners. The full list of the 46th Annual Telly Awards winners can be found at www.tellyawards.com/winners/.
