Necaxa

Eva Longoria will team up with Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds, who own Wales-based Wrexham AFC, to work on revitalizing Club Necaxa, one of Mexico’s soccer teams.

The show will air on FX and Disney+ Latin America.

“Necaxa” is a bilingual docuseries chronicling a turbulent, transformational time marked by staff shake-ups, career-defining injuries and a soccer team determined to defy expectations and deliver hope to its city of Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The team has not won a Mexican Super Cup Championship since 2018, after promotion to the first league in 2016.

“My commitment to Necaxa, it’s about culture,” Longoria said in the show’s trailer. “I want to show the beauty of the Mexican people.”

Once a powerhouse in Mexican football, Club Necaxa has spent decades navigating instability, including relocations and near-constant reinvention. The team has gone through ups and downs, but diehard fans continue to believe in their beloved “Rayos.”

The docuseries will offer behind-the-scenes access as well as follow the emotional journeys of the players, the fans and believers — and even the skeptics.

“Necaxa” brings viewers onto the training pitch and into the locker room as Los Rayos and their supporters chase a playoff dream and hope that lightning can strike again.

Will Club Necaxa make it, or will they lose another season and the hearts of Aguascalientes once and for all?

The show is executive produced by Eva Longoria, Cris Abrego, Rachelle Mendez, Nicholas Frenkel, Jackie Cohn, George Dewey, Rob Mac, Ryan Reynolds, Alex Fumero and Diana E. Gonzales.

The series is produced by Hyphenate Media Group, More Better Productions, Maximum Effort and 3 Arts Entertainment. It will air on August 7.
