Afro-Mexican pride will be on full display in Los Angeles this month as The Ford hosts Afro-Mexican artistry and resilience as part of their Tercera Raíz event.
Gate time is set for 6:30 p.m. on August 21 with the show beginning at 8:00 p.m.
The African diaspora has been felt across the globe, and The Ford wants people to remember that no part of the world has been untouched by its influence by honoring its contributions to Mexican culture.
The Tercera Raíz, or the Third Root in English, honors the country’s history, music, dance and daily life. Performances will be held by Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company and Souly Dance Arts in collaboration with Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando.
The Third Root is part of the three components of Mexico with the first two being indigenous and European/Spanish cultures. The Third Root was introduced in the 16th Century during the transatlantic slave trade and was comprised of free and enslaved Africans, according to sources.
The Ford offers on-site parking, and there will also be free shuttle service for those who want to avoid getting blocked in.
