The bilingual musical “El Otro Oz” is a reimagined tale of the magical land of Oz, featuring salsa, merengue and Mexican folk-infused songs. It is currently on tour in Los Angeles.
Created by Mando Alvarado, Tommy Newman and Jaime Lozano, the musical has been selected as a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
“As her fifteenth birthday approaches, Dora, a contemporary Latiné teenager, struggles with her family’s ideas about tradition and dreads her impending quinceañera,” the description of the musical states. “But, when Dora gets swept away to a strange new land, she learns how to celebrate her unique rhythm and embrace her cultural identity.”
TheaterWorksUSA’s production of “El Otro Oz” has been performing at the Kirk Douglas Theatre since March 29 and will have its final showtimes on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13. The location is 9820 Washington Blvd., Culver City, 90232. Tickets are available online.
