Rodrigo Angel Jimenez-Ortega

Rodrigo Angel Jimenez-Ortega will have his first solo show at Eastern Projects Gallery in LA.

His art draws from his upbringing between San Diego and Tijuana. He merges personal history with imagery from video games, cartoons andinternet culture, including references to Nintendo and Dragon Ball Z.

The exhibit titled “IT IS WHAT IT IS” will have an opening reception on January 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

His work explores identity, memory, and culture through the lens of heritage and digital media.

Thought-provoking paintings transform familiar imagery, opening a dialogue between digital fantasy and lived reality. The works invite reflection on memory, nostalgia, and the layered intersections of culture.

“My work investigates the intersection of heritage, lived experience, and

21st-century digital landscapes,” Jimenez-Ortega’s statement says. “I bridge the culture of my lineage (Mexico), the culture of my upbringing (United States), and my "chosen culture"—that of video games, cartoons, and cinema.”

Eastern Projects Gallery is located at 900 N Broadway, Suite 1090, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
