Federal agents detained multiple people, possibly day laborers, outside a Home Depot in the Westlake District on Friday.
Agents from what appeared to be multiple law enforcement agencies could be seen escorting men in handcuffs into vehicles outside the home improvement supply store at 1675 Wilshire Blvd. on Friday morning.
Los Angeles police say they were not involved in any immigration enforcement operation in the area, but did respond to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon report in the Westlake District at about 9 a.m., but quickly cleared the scene after finding no evidence of an assault.
Unión del Barrio has also confirmed Homeland Security agents present in Downtown L.A. today, on 9th Street and Town Avenue. They have received “hundreds of calls, messages, and reports of ICE activity from all over CA in the past several days,” according to their Instagram account.
“Since Sunday, June 1, we have received ICE activity reports from barrios in National City, San Diego, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Escondido, Oceanside, Bloomington, Pomona, Cathedral City, Temecula, L.A., Boyle Heights, South Central, North Hollywood and Sun Valley,” their statement said.
This is a developing story.
