Chrysler has issued a new recall for 320,065 Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles from the years 2020-2025 and Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles from the years 2022-2026 due to a risk of fire when parking or driving the vehicles.
Owners must park outdoors and away from buildings and other vehicles until they confirm their vehicle has been repaired. Furthermore, owners should not charge the batteries of unrepaired vehicles, as the risk of fire is greater in a charged battery than in a discharged one.
This recall affects 228,221 Jeep Wrangler vehicles and 91,844 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. According to information obtained by Chrysler, there is one reported case of injury, which may be related to the problem addressed by this recall. The affected vehicles may have a battery with damaged cells in the separator, which could cause a fire.
This recall includes vehicles previously recalled and repaired under NHTSA recall number24V-720. Chrysler is aware of 19 battery fires in these vehicles, including nine in vehicles that had received software updates. Chrysler has determined that the solution used in the previous recall is not effective in detecting certain battery malfunctions that can cause fires. If an owner has already had their vehicle repaired for this issue, they shouldcheck if their vehicle is includedin this new recall and follow all relevant instructions.
A solution is not yet available, so owners are advised to continue parking their vehicles outdoors and refrain from loading them until the recall repair is completed. Owners will receive a mail notification beginning December 2 and can contact Chrysler Customer Service at 800-853-1403. The NHTSA recall number is 25V-741.
Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and license plate numbers of affected vehicles will be searchable on NHTSA.gov starting Thursday, November 6. From that time, owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recallsand enter their license plate number or 17-digit VIN to see if their vehicle is subject to a recall. Alternatively, you can contact NHTSA online(in English) or by calling the agency's toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Bilingual agents are available. NHTSA also recommends downloading the SaferCar app to stay informed about current recalls.
