CALÓ News sat down with the American regional Mexican groupEslabon Armado, which consists of Pedro Tovar, Brian Tovar and Damian Fidel Pacheco. When the group was asked about the rapid evolution of regional Mexican music, Pedro said he believes the genre will continue evolving even more over the next few years.
“I don't think it's a matter of any single artist saying, ‘Oh, let's do things differently.’ I think everyone draws inspiration from other genres, and well, it should continue that way,” Pedro said. “If you look back ten years ago compared to now, it has changed a great deal, so ten years from now, it’s going to change even more. So we’re doing a great job.”
Brian also agreed with Pedro and added that the lyrics are precisely what continues to evolve. “I’d say we’re on the right track,” he said.
When the group was asked about their connection with young Latinos and how their music gives fans a space to express themselves and be vulnerable, Pedro said that everyone’s experiences are personal and unique in their own way when they listen to their music.

"As a songwriter, I certainly have experiences of my own; I’ve definitely had my heart broken, but I’ve also fallen in love. Sadly, the whole ‘love letter’ thing has almost never really worked out for me in real life, but I write them anyway because I enjoy doing so immensely. I’ve always had a fondness for romance and for heartbreak,” he said. “You can cry, you can scream, you can feel happy listening to these songs, whether you’re in love or whatever your situation may be.”
Pacheco also added that he believes that songwriting is a way to express what they are living through. “You can also draw inspiration from other stories you hear, and it’s something beautiful because people can relate to it,” he said. “Everyone goes through moments in life where they feel vulnerable, and there’s nothing more comforting than listening to a song where you hear the lyrics and say, ‘You know what? I’ve been through that too.’”
Pedro shared with CALÓ News the special moment when he and his brother Brian realized they had made it in the music industry. “When I first released the album “Tu Veneno Mortal,” I was still in high school, and I uploaded the album from the school library. I remember that the next month the pandemic happened, and suddenly it was everywhere,” he said. “I think that was the moment when I told myself, ‘Wow, I really made it.' And yeah, I think it was a really beautiful moment because we were still independent at the time, doing everything on our own while still being in school.”
When the group was asked what advice they would give to someone experiencing heartbreak, Pedro jokingly said, "Just listen to Eslabon songs; that’s probably the easiest thing you can do.” He also emphasized that it’s important to be okay with yourself and to talk to someone who will genuinely listen and remind you that you’re not alone. “If you are alone, just listen to music. It’s a really beautiful way to let all of that out,” he said.

On the other hand, Brian believes that people should focus more on personal goals that make them feel better, like going to the gym. “When I got my heart broken, I started going to the gym, and ever since then, I’ve been more strong-minded and clear-headed,” he said.
Pacheco, meanwhile, believes that you have to let time take its course. “Obviously, at that moment, it feels horrible and you feel terrible, but you shouldn’t worry too much. Just keep moving forward and remember there are a lot of people around you, your family and loved ones, and lean on those people. They can help you,” he shared.
Fans have been flooding Eslabon Armado’s social media with requests for new music, and Pedro confirmed that a new album is on the way very soon.
“We’ve already finished it. We just need to do a few final things. And the tour is also coming,” he said. “We’re starting in July and kicking off in Phoenix, and then we’ll go through the U.S. and Mexico. We’re really excited about it.”
