Kids will be running around SoCal this weekend to celebrate their very own holiday, el Día del Niño or Day of the Child.

Free events will take place in Orange County and Los Angeles this weekend. The festivities will run over the weekend with the first taking place at the Orange County’s Hunt Branch Library and Event Center in Fullerton on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 10 a.m. The other will bring the celebration to L.A.’s Plaza Mexico in Lynwood. That event will take place on April 26 and will start at 1:00 pm.

Both festivals offer a full day of cultural performances, arts activities and family-friendly programs.

Attendees at the Hunt Branch Library and Event Center will experience dozens of live performances including the Ballet Folklorico Fraternidad de Bolivia, Danza Artes de Mexico, the Learning Spot Dance Academy and many others.

They will also feature free youth workshops, where children can participate in activities such as songwriting, piñata-making, interactive family art and a love mural, and voice actor and one of several Latino cultural advisors of the animated Disney/Pixar film “COCO,” Herbert Sigüenza, will also be a special emcee for the event.

Further south in Lynwood at the Plaza Mexico, guests will be able to enjoy a featured clown performance from Huntington Park resident “Tatis La Super Payasita,” whose career spans over 25 years, and will be joined by her crew of Power Clowns.

The Plaza’s Kid's Zone will feature an arts and crafts area, with piñatas, music and treats.
