Hermandad Mexicana Nacional will present the 2025 Bert Corona Awards honorees Xolo Maridueña, Senator Richard G. Polanco and Romi de Frias at the gala on Friday.
The gala will be “a celebration of leadership, service, and cultural impact that continues the legacy of legendary civil rights leader Bert Corona,” according to the press release.
The awards will be presented in Los Angeles, at a gala gathering of leaders from politics, entertainment, media, and grassroots activism.
The event will have a special music performance by Las Chorizeras, an all-female ensemble founded by singer-songwriter Nancy Sánchez, blending traditional mariachi with a contemporary twist in Regional Mexican and Alternative music.
This year’s honorees exemplify the values of courage, equity, and empowerment that defined Bert Corona’s lifelong fight for justice. Xolo Maridueña will be presented with the Bert Corona Estrella Award. As an actor and trailblazer, Xolo Maridueña “has emerged as one of the most inspiring Latino voices in Hollywood. From his groundbreaking lead role in ‘Blue Beetle’ to his global success in the Netflix hit ‘Cobra Kai,’ Maridueña has given new generations of Latinos worldwide a role model whose authenticity and perseverance reflect the strength of the community,” the statement reads.

Senator Richard G. Polanco (Ret.) is a pioneer in California politics. Senator Polanco “devoted over 20 years to public service, authoring landmark legislation that advanced equity and opportunity across the state. His enduring commitment to underserved communities embodies the very principles Bert Corona championed.”
Romi de Frias, Univision correspondent, mother, and social justice advocate. “As a journalist, Romi de Frias has amplified the voices of communities often left unheard, shining a light on critical issues impacting Latino families. Beyond her professional contributions, she is celebrated as a mother and a dedicated advocate for social justice.”
“These honorees reflect the power of leadership rooted in service and justice,” said Ernesto Corona, Hermandad Mexicana Nacional Director. “Like Bert Corona, they have uplifted our communities, inspired future leaders, and ensured that the fight for equity continues.”
The evening will also feature a live performance by the acclaimed ensemble Las Chorizeras, underscoring the role of culture and music in movements for justice.
The Bert Corona Awards honor individuals whose vision, leadership, and lifelong commitment to equity reflect the enduring legacy of Bert Corona (1918–2001) an influential labor and civil rights leader.
