San Francisco’s Mission District will be the site for the first televised Lowrider Parade, in honor of National Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, according to organizers.
The parade on Saturday, September 20, will feature a hopping competition, car show, and hundreds of vehicles from across the country.
Car clubs from Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and cities throughout California like Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, will be part of the parade. There will also be women car clubs joining.
The event is organized by the San Francisco Lowrider Council (SF LRC) in partnership with the City of San Francisco, Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, and the Mission Merchants Association.
SF LRC and Cultura y Arte Nativa de Las Américas (CANA) have launched an Immigrant Emergency Relief Fund to provide immediate financial support for immigrant families impacted by recent ICE raids. Donations can be made at: https://givebutter.com/ImmigrantReliefFundSF
The parade will air live on CBS as part of San Francisco’s official National Latino Heritage Month festivities from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
Local businesses will feature Lowrider-themed food and drinks. La Coronata will debut the first-ever “Lowrider Taco,” and La Reina Bakery will unveil their “Lowrider Pan Dulce.”
The crowning of the King of the Street Champion winners in various categories will cruise home with $10,000 in cash prize.
