There were more Latino voters in the 2024 election that chose Trump than in 2020.
Although 56% of Latinos voted for Kamala Harris, according to AP results, 42% of Latinos voted for Trump, a 7% increase since 2020. Black voters decreased their votes for Harris compared to their votes for Biden by 8%. White voters were the same percentage in both presidential elections with 43% for the Democratic party and 55% for Trump.
50% of Latino men voted for Harris and 47% voted for Trump. In 2020, 36% of Latino men voted for Trump and 59% voted for Biden, according to NBC. It should be noted that NBC has the percentage of Latino men voting for Trump in this election at a higher number than AP, at 54%.
60% of Latina women voted for Harris, while 38% voted for Trump. In 2022, 30% of Latina women voted for Trump and 69% voted for Biden.
While the majority of Latina women and roughly half of Latino men continued to vote for the Democratic party, it is clear that Trump gained support from Latinos throughout the nation to secure his second term.
According to a report by BBC, economic concerns and the perception that Latino family values align more with the Republican Party contributed to higher support for Trump.
Despite Trump’s violent rhetoric towards immigrants, the Democratic Party lagged in support from Latinos in previous polls. Advocacy groups warned that there was a lack of Latino voter outreach from both parties.
